Students may have the tendency to do what they want if they have permission. If they have permission to sign into our Chromebooks with their own Google account there have been cases where the student may setup an inappropriate username or avatar. If they forget to sign out they may also leave an inappropriate background as well we leave their own account vulnerable. This can lead to problems with school administration, parents, and yourself.

To prevent issues with students logging into their own account and leaving inappropriate messages, pictures, or leaving their personal Google account vulnerable if they forget to sign out (which shouldn't happen in the first place), follow these steps before handing a Chromebook to a student.

  1. Sign in to your Chromebook with the owner account (parent@hatchcanada.com).*
  2. Click your account photo.
  3. Click Settings Settings.
  4. In the "People" section, click Manage other people.
  5. Turn on Restrict sign-in to the following users.
  6. The only accounts allowed should be parent@hatchcanada.com and guest@hatchcanada.com.

If for any reason you'd like to sign into your own account  for security reasons versus using the guest@hatchcanada.com, you can disable this feature to sign in with your own account, but please be sure to re-enable this feature, to prevent any issues.

*The credentials for the owner account for every Chromebook is available on our Google Drive.
