At its core, Hatch believes in:

  • Self-Paced Learning: giving everyone the power to learn and grow on their own terms.
  • Student-Centered Learning: making discovery the most important part of learning.
  • Growth Mindset: encouraging the belief that in every skill and area, students can get better at what they do.

And in that spirit we have embraced Mastery-Based learning as the teaching foundation at Hatch.

Marking projects opens an opportunity to not only build rapport with students but to help them grow, learn and master what they have done. It offers a chance for the student to self-reflect and gain insight into what they are doing well in and what they may need more help in.

So it is important to review projects in-person so that:

  • Difficulties can be uncovered and addressed.
  • Their level of proficiency can be identified.
  • The student can learn and grow through reflection and discussion.
    • What did they learn?
    • What aspects of the project where difficult?
    • What aspects where easy?

So, no projects should not be marked at home.

Marking Tips:

How do I Mark Multiple Projects?

If you are feeling overwhelmed by multiple projects coming in at once we would recommend marking students projects when they've completed 3 projects. In fact students get a notification about this too:

You can also have your fellow coaches help you during the shift if required.
